About us
El Diari de Montserrat is a local digital newspaper covering Montserrat, in the Ribera Alta district of Valencia. It publishes news from the municipality —the town hall, culture and festivals, sport and community life— in Valencian, Spanish and English. All three editions go out at the same time with the same content.
It starts from a simple idea: a town in the Ribera Alta can have a newspaper that tells it what is happening, with the detail and context that will not fit into a headline in the regional press. We do not want to replace any other outlet: we want to cover what, for lack of space, reaches nowhere.
Who writes it
The paper is produced in Montserrat. Editorial direction, writing, translation and publication are handled by Emili Cerveró Moreno, who is answerable for what is published and signs the corrections when needed. There is no newsroom with an office and no company behind it: there is one person who works the town every day and stands behind what is published.
Pieces carry the byline «Redacció» when the paper has written them from documentary sources, official data or press releases. When a text is a guest contribution or an opinion piece, it carries the name of its author.
How we work
- Primary sources first. Sports results are checked against the federations (Federació de Pilota Valenciana, Federació de Futbol de la Comunitat Valenciana, Federació de Bàsquet de la Comunitat Valenciana); notices and roadworks, against the town hall and the companies carrying them out; the weather, against AEMET and AVAMET.
- A press release is a source, not a text. We check the facts, rewrite them and add the missing context. If a claim cannot be verified, it is not published.
- Visible attribution. Every piece says where the data comes from and, when the information belongs to a third party, the source is linked at the end of the text.
- Honest photography. We publish our own images or images supplied with permission. If an image is from the archive, illustrative or generated with artificial intelligence, the caption or the alt text says so.
- No syndicated content. We do not copy or reproduce news from other outlets. The paper does not publish other people's texts as its own.
Editorial standards
- Accuracy before speed. If a fact is not confirmed, we wait. A late story can still be read; a false one cannot be fully taken back.
- Independence. No party, organisation or advertiser decides what gets published. We are not paid to publish, nor to stay silent.
- Advertising is labelled. Advertising spaces are shown as such and are never confused with news.
- People before traffic. Minors are not identified in sensitive stories. In accidents and crime, we respect the grief of the people affected and publish only what matters to the town.
- Right of reply. Anyone who feels referred to by a story may reply, and the reply is published.
- Opinion kept apart. The Blogs section is signed opinion: it does not necessarily share the newsroom's standards and is published under the name of its author.
- Language. Valencian follows the rules of the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua. Quotations are kept in their original language.
How it is funded
The paper is funded by the programmatic advertising served by Google AdSense and by the unpaid collaboration of local people. There are no subscriptions, no paywalls and no sponsored content that is not labelled. Contributions from readers —facts, photographs, notices— are not paid for and give no right to decide how information is published.
Errors and corrections
If you have a better fact, a correction or a complaint about a piece, write to info@diarimontserrat.es. If we get something wrong, we correct the piece and say so; nothing is deleted without a record of the change.
Get involved
The paper is made by all of us. If you know of an event, a result, an incident, or you have a photograph worth publishing, send it in.
