Vall dels Alcalans adult school opens its new seat in Montroi
The Escola d’Adults Vall dels Alcalans (the Vall dels Alcalans adult school) inaugurated its new seat in Montroi on Friday 16 October, at the Casa de la Cultura, with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque on the façade. The adult education centre shared by Montserrat, Montroi and Real thus moves its seat and secretariat to the neighbouring municipality after three decades in Montserrat, while keeping a branch in the town.
The school was founded in 1989 with its seat in Real and soon moved to Montserrat, where it has been based for 30 years, according to the centre’s own figures. This is the first time the seat is in Montroi. The centre is owned by the Mancomunitat Vall dels Alcalans: of its three teachers, one works for the Mancomunitat and two for the Conselleria d’Educació (the regional education ministry).
This year 150 students are enrolled, a «very considerable rise» on the previous year, according to the centre.
The 2026-2027 course poster circulated by the school sets out the offer and the class groups:
- English. A1: Montroi, Tuesday, 5–7 pm. A2: Montroi, Monday, 5–7 pm. B1: Montserrat, Thursday, 6–8 pm.
- Spanish. A1: Montroi, Monday and Tuesday, 7–8 pm. A2: Montroi, Thursday, 6–8 pm.
- Valencian. A2: Montserrat, Wednesday, 6–8 pm.
- FIPA I (Formació Inicial per a Persones Adultes, initial adult education): Montroi, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 3–5 pm.
- Digital skills. Montserrat, Thursday, 4–6 pm.
The centre also keeps Montserrat as a branch: ELE 1 (Spanish for foreigners) is taught there on Friday mornings.
For students from Montserrat, the change means travelling to Montroi for the English A1 and A2, Spanish A1 and A2 and FIPA I groups, while the English B1, Valencian A2, digital skills and ELE 1 classes remain in Montserrat.
Anyone interested can ask for information on 962 986 388 or by email at epavalldelsalcalans@gmail.com, the same contact details the centre keeps for enrolments.
Editor’s note: an earlier version of this article, published on 16 October on the basis of the Ajuntament de Montserrat’s municipal listing, said the move covered the whole centre and left Montserrat without a seat. Information supplied by the school corrects both points: Montserrat keeps a branch with several groups. The text was updated on 19 October.
