Montserrat’s 20th Sopar de Quintes goes ahead smoothly after storm threat
The 20th Sopar de Quintes brought together Montserrat residents from different generations in Plaça de la Constitució on the night of Saturday 1 August. The dinner, scheduled for 10 pm, once again filled the square with tables arranged according to year of birth, known locally as quintes.
The event remained in doubt for part of the afternoon. Around two hours before it was due to begin, a storm threatened to force its cancellation. The weather cleared before the starting time and the dinner went ahead as planned and without incident.
The Sopar de Quintes is held every year on the first weekend of August. Its arrangement by age cohorts allows people from the same generation to share a table and makes the evening an opportunity for reunions between those who still live in Montserrat and those who return to the town for the festivities.
After dinner, Orquestra Wanda opened the musical part of the evening. José Coll’s «Remember» show followed and extended the celebration, which forms part of the 2026 Festes Majors programme.
The gathering opened Montserrat’s August festivities and ensured that one of the town’s most recognisable summer get-togethers could continue despite the earlier uncertainty caused by the weather.
