Provincial Council to improve safety on the CV-416 access to Montserrat in 2026
The Diputació de València has tendered the works to build a roundabout on the access to Montserrat from the CV-416, an action demanded for years by the municipality to solve the road safety problem existing at the junction connecting the road with the urban centre. In this way, the Roads area headed by the second vice-president, Reme Mazzolari, will invest 565,000 euros in a project that plans to order the accesses to both busy roads in the town, such as Avenida Jaume I and Calle Josep Renau, as well as to the sports centre and the distribution of traffic in the direction of Chiva.
The new roundabout will have two lanes and will replace the current junction between the CV-416 road and the urban centre of Montserrat, accessed via Avenida Jaume I with dangerous path crossings. The new infrastructure, whose works could start at the beginning of 2026 with an estimated execution period of four months, will be composed of the rotary platform and four slip roads that will put an end to the serious safety problem of the crossings and the access to the sports centre; the poor visibility of users entering from Avenida Jaume I; and the lack of urban planning that makes it impossible to connect with other roads included in the town's General Plan, explains Mazzolari.
The first of these new slip roads that will branch off from the roundabout will connect with the CV-416 road in the direction of Chiva, with a length of 150 metres. The second, 20 metres long, will link with Calle Josep Renau, one of the novelties in the access to the urban centre that will also allow the development of the General Plan. The next slip road will be the access to Avenida Jaume I, 25 metres long. And the last one will connect with the CV-416 in the direction of Montroi, on Avenida Carles Salvador.
Safer spaces
The roundabout that the Diputació will build on the access to Montserrat will have eight metres of carriageway, with side verges half a metre wide, a central island and an outer pavement of variable width. The first slip road, connecting with the road going to Chiva, will have two lanes 3.5 metres wide, while the accesses to the municipality will remain as consolidated spaces, with wide pavements: Avenida Jaume I with its 13.5 metres width; Calle Josep Renau with 12 metres width; and Avenida Carles Salvador, in the direction of Montroi, with 6.5 metres of carriageway.
The action will also reinforce the safety of the access to the Montserrat sports centre, a single-direction slip road 3.5 metres wide, with verges between half a metre and one metre and a landscaped area of variable width on the right margin. The connection of the access, about 40 metres long, will be made through the first slip road, the one on the road in the direction of Chiva, by means of an acceleration wedge. The works will include the replacement of elements such as affected perimeter fences, drinking water pipes and underground telephone ducts.
In the words of Reme Mazzolari, these projects demonstrate that we have not neglected at all the day-to-day running of the provincial road network and priority issues in terms of safety, despite having had to redouble efforts to rebuild the infrastructure affected by the DANA, where an emergency investment of over 80 million euros has been made. The reconstruction work is very advanced and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, but in parallel we will continue to drive projects that protect the users of our roads, adds the vice-president.
