Orquesta Royal play in Montserrat on Saturday 17
The Sant Roc revetlla that Montserrat’s patronal festivities left postponed with no new date will finally go ahead this weekend. Orquesta Royal will play from 7.30 pm at the Pàrquing de Jaume I on Saturday 17 October, according to the Ajuntament de Montserrat’s Octubre Viu 2026 programme. A revetlla is a traditional open-air dance that runs into the small hours.
The dance had been announced for Sant Roc night, on 16 August, as part of the 2026 Festes Majors programme, and its natural stage was the plaça de la Constitució (the main square), the usual spot for the orchestras of the patronal festivities of Sant Roc and the Mare de Déu d’Agost. The event was postponed without a new date and is now being recovered two months later, with the car park in avinguda Jaume I as the venue.
Behind the date is a band with more than half a century of history: Orquesta Royal, also known as Royal Espectáculo, is a verbena orchestra from Ourense, active since 1968, with 17 members including singers, a dance troupe and rhythm and wind sections. This year it is touring the Iberian peninsula with the «Gothic Tour 2026» staging, which the band itself presents as the biggest technical undertaking in its history, with a 32-metre stage, more than 200 moving heads and 250 square metres of LED screens.
The revetlla is part of the Octubre Viu 2026 programme, through which the Ajuntament de Montserrat brings together the town’s autumn events. The Pàrquing de Jaume I is a venue regularly used for large gatherings in the town, having already hosted this year’s Festa de l’Aigua.
The event also comes with the forecast from the Spanish state meteorological agency (AEMET), which puts the probability of rainfall at 100% between noon on Saturday and midnight and at 85% on Sunday, within the episode of heavy rain the agency expects along the Mediterranean coast.
