CPV Montserrat win the Champions de Llargues in their own street
CPV Montserrat have been crowned champions of the 2026 Champions de Llargues after beating CPV La Rectoria 40-30 in Sunday’s final, played in carrer Salvador Seguí in the town centre. The host club thus close, in their own street, a three-day competition that brought together thirteen teams from six European federations.
The event, organised by the International Federation of Jeu de Balle (FIJB) with Club de Pilota Montserrat as hosts, took over the town centre for the whole weekend: carrer Salvador Seguí and carrer de les Germanies became the tournament’s two natural courts. The group stage was played on Saturday, with fifteen matches, and on Sunday the two semi-finals and the final were played, all three in carrer Salvador Seguí.
The local team competed in group 3 alongside OKK Beetgum of the Netherlands and Italy’s Palla Eh! Ciciano, and went through to the semi-finals as group winners. The thirteen participants came to Montserrat as champions of their national leagues, representing the federations of the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, the Basque Country and the Comunitat Valenciana, the latter with five teams: La Rectoria, Orba, Tibi, Alzira and Montserrat itself.
Sunday’s finals
- 9 am: first semi-final, between CPV La Rectoria and CPV Orba (40-25); La Rectoria went through.
- 10.30 am: second semi-final, between CPV Montserrat and KNKB Franeker (40-25); the home team went through.
- 12.30 pm: the final, between CPV Montserrat and CPV La Rectoria (40-30), won by CPV Montserrat.
The final pitted two Valencian teams against each other. CPV La Rectoria, from the Marina Alta, arrived in Montserrat as champions of the 2026 Lliga de Llargues, a title they won in June by beating CPV Orba 10-7 in Mutxamel: their first trophy in this discipline.
KNKB Franeker, for their part, were the reigning Champions winners, having taken the 2025 edition in Beetgum (Netherlands), the same edition in which CPV Montserrat had already faced the Dutch club and Belgium’s Thieulain Wolfpack.
The title arrives in the club’s best recent season: in 2026 the club were crowned Valencian regional champions in the first and second categories of street galotxa, won the benjamí A (under-12) title and saw Óscar retain the individual regional title in the first category.
Llargues has no venue of its own: it is played in the street, with the ratlles marked on the ground. With this title, the town closes a weekend in which the local sport returned to public space —the Ajuntament de Montserrat (the town council) streamed the sessions live on its YouTube channel— and in which local businesses helped sponsor the trophies, which are handmade.
