Montserrat hosts the Champions de Llargues 2026 this weekend
Montserrat will host the Champions de Llargues 2026 this weekend, the competition that brings together the champion clubs of Europe in this form of Valencian pilota played in the street. The event will gather thirteen teams from the federations of the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, the Basque Country and the Comunitat Valenciana, five of which will represent the Federació de Pilota Valenciana (FPV).
The event opens on Friday 2 October; the group stage will be played on Saturday 3 and will decide the semi-finalists who will contest the title on Sunday 4. The matches will take place in the town centre, recovering the natural street spaces where this discipline —known in Valencian as joc a ratlles and related to the French jeu de paume, the Belgian ballepelote and Frisian and Tuscan pelota— has historically been played.
The Champions de Llargues 2026 groups
- Group 1: CPV Orba (FPV), VvV Sjirk de Wal (Netherlands) and Thieulain Wolfpack (Belgium).
- Group 2: CPV La Rectoria (FPV), Gipuzkoa (Basque Country) and Paume Maubeugeoise (France).
- Group 3: CPV Montserrat (FPV), OKK Beetgum (Netherlands) and Palla Eh! Ciciano (Italy).
- Group 4: CPV Tibi (FPV), KNKB Franeker (Netherlands), Bizkaia (Basque Country) and CPV Alzira (FPV).
The competition is organised by the International Federation of Jeu de Balle (FIJB) and is supported by the Generalitat Valenciana, the Diputació de València, the Ajuntament de Montserrat (the town council), Caixa Popular and the Fundació José Luis López.
CPV Montserrat also acts as host of a competition in which it already took part in 2025, in Beetgum (Netherlands), against Belgian side Thieulain and Dutch side Franeker, who went on to become champions. With CPV Montserrat among the five Valencian representatives —alongside Orba, La Rectoria, Tibi and Alzira—, the town will this weekend host a competition that reclaims the streets of the urban centre for a form of pilota with centuries of history.
