Registration open for the 2026 Festes Cavalcade: deadline 6 August
The Montserrat Town Council has published the rules for the 2026 Festes Cavalcade, the contest that opens the Festes Majors each year with a parade of floats, troupes, figures and traditions through the village streets. Registration is open until 6 August.
The rules establish four participation categories. A carrossa (float) is a platform on which participants have built a hand-decorated structure; the theme, complexity and manual craftsmanship will be assessed. A comparsa (troupe) is a group of people sharing a single theme; the costumes, theme and synchronisation among members will be judged. A figura (figure) is a person or group forming a single motif; the theme, costume and representation of the motif will be evaluated. And a tradició (tradition) covers participants whose theme represents one of the roots of local identity.
To take part, it is mandatory to submit an application to the Ajuntament's general registry with the personal details and national ID of a group representative. The category (float, troupe, figure or tradition) must be specified, along with a group title and the number of members.
The starting order of the floats will be decided by draw on 7 August at 6 pm in the plenary hall, an event that must be attended by at least one representative from each group. Applications submitted after 6 August will not enter the draw and will parade at the end, following the order of registry entry.
The rules of conduct state that participants may make any form of criticism provided it is not offensive towards individuals or institutions, with good manners and mutual respect prevailing among all participants and towards the audience watching the parade.
