Montserrat activates Violet Points for festivals free from gender-based violence

The Montserrat Town Council will activate its network of Violet Points during the Festes Majors — safe spaces designed to inform, raise awareness, prevent and respond to any form of gender-based violence at public events. The measure is part of the municipal protocol deployed each year by the Equality Department during the festivals.

Violet Points are visible, accessible spots offering information and support to attendees about the different forms of gender-based violence, how to identify harassment or assault, how to act if one experiences or witnesses a violent situation, and what care, protection and advisory resources are available.

The protocol sets out five principles of action: respect and non-judgement, listening without questioning or blaming; confidentiality, protecting the person's identity and privacy; safety, always prioritising the victim's safety; coordination with police forces, civil protection and health services; and victim-centred care, respecting the person's decisions and pace.

The Violet Points also incorporate a participatory and community dimension, encouraging the involvement of residents, associations and attendees to build a collective zero-tolerance response to any form of gender-based violence. The aim is for everyone to be able to enjoy the festivals and public events with freedom, respect and safety.
