Montserrat's secondary school is overcrowded: mayors demand an afternoon shift

The mayors of the Vall dels Alcalans municipalities have stepped up pressure on the regional Education department to demand an afternoon shift at the Montserrat secondary school, given the overcrowding suffered by a centre that serves several towns in the region.

The department, however, has so far ruled out enabling a double session, a stance that the school's teachers have rebutted by warning about the conditions in which teaching takes place and the impact on students. Families and leadership teams have been denouncing a situation they describe as neglect for months.

The demand has become one of the region's cross-cutting claims and has added mobilisations in defence of public education, with an eye on the coming school year.
