Club Escacs de Montserrat honoured at the 2026 Gala de l’Esport
Club Escacs de Montserrat received an official honour at the 2026 Gala de l’Esport, organised by Montserrat town council on 26 June. The award recognises the club’s twenty-year track record of uninterrupted activity in the town.
Over these two decades, the club has built up an intense programme of chess promotion in the locality, ranging from school and youth tournaments to the Open Internacional «Poble de Montserrat», a flagship event for enthusiasts and players from across the region. The club also competes in the interclub league with several teams, and has highlighted a record year for team entries.
The Gala de l’Esport is the annual event at which the town council recognises the athletes, clubs and organisations that represent Montserrat across different disciplines. In this edition, Club Escacs added its name to the roll of honourees — a recognition that the club described as an encouragement to keep working for grassroots chess.
